Chelsea have had a bid for Argentina attacking midfielder Javier Pastore rejected by Palermo, according to the Italian side.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini is understood to have slapped a £44 million price tag on the 21-year-old’s back and according to Sky Sports, Chelsea’s offer (believed to have been around £33m) falls well below that figure.

“Chelsea was a club that we had a major offer from,” Zamparini is quoted as saying in the Spanish press. “It did not reach the minimum figure that we set for a player of his quality.

“If someone wants to buy Pastore, the price is €50 million [£44m].

“There are five or six clubs also interested, including [Manchester] City and big clubs from Spain and Italy, but so far there has been nothing from them.”

Roman Abramovich’s club are not the only big name side believed to be showing an interest in Pastore; Spanish rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona are monitoring his situation as are Inter Milan and AC Milan.
