QPR are lining up a sensational swoop for Italy’s World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro.

The former Juventus and Real Madrid defender, 37, is a free agent after a spell at Qatari club Al Ahli came to an end.

Despite his age – he will be 38 in September – Italy’s most capped player is considering playing a 20th season at club level.

Cannavaro said: ‘I have not yet decided when I will retire.’

Since winning promotion to the Premier League back in May QPR have not made a single signing but there are plenty of funds available to be spent.

Boss Neil Warnock is keen to add quality to his squad and Cannavaro, who won 136 caps for Italy, would fit the bill.

And Hoops supremo Flavio Briatore would love to bring his fellow countryman to Loftus Road to kick start their summer spending spree.

The 5ft 9in centre back lifted the 2006 World Cup in Germany after his side triumphed over France.
