Ajax Cape Town were outclassed all over the pitch as they went down 3-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns at the Newlands Stadium on Saturday evening.

Ajax had the better early chances as Terror Fanteni had a scuffed shot cleared off the line and Nhlanhla Vilakazi had his 25-yard shot tipped over by Wayne Sandilands.

The Brazilians slowly but surely began to show more purpose when going forward, and Elias Pelembe was close to getting on the end of Teko Modise’s through ball just after the half hour mark.

The two were however to combine for the opening goal as Modise’s corner found Pelembe at the near post, with a 39th minute clinical header the result.

Sundowns continued where they left off in the first half as they came close to scoring five minutes after the break as Mphela scooped a volley over the bar after Matthew Booth was caught ball watching.

In the 51st minute though there was no denying the Tshwane side from adding their second as Mphela teed up Modise to fire home with a curled effort in at the near post.

Mphela made it 3-0 after 60 minutes with a well taken strike as he drifted in from the left and fired in an unstoppable shot across the body of Sandilands; his first league goal in seven matches.

Ajax could do no better than mount a half-spirited attempt to get back into the game as nothing went right for the home side on the night.
They did have a couple of chances., but were let down by poor finishing as Lebo Manyama and then George Akpabio both failed to score when one-on-one with Sandilands.

Downs though could also have added a few more goals, and when the final whistle blew, were good value for a solid and accomplished 3-0 win, which extends their lead at the top of the log to four points.
